My name is Summer Gan Su Yin. Born on the 28 September 1995, I am currently fourteen years of age and stand tall at 5ft 3 inches in height. I love singing, acting, performing in general, baking, text messaging, interacting with people, annoying my older brother and taking pictures especially polaroids. I live with a family of five - my parents, my two brothers and myself. We're very close as a family and we spend alot of time with my grandmother and relatives as well. Other than my family, I have amazing friends who care about me and are always there for me. Truly, I am blessed and I thank God everyday for the undying support I get from both my family and friends. Without them, my life would be dull and boring.

I am very passionate about dance. I discovered this early this year when I was asked to go for dance auditions, competitions and summer school programmes. I've been going for ballet classes for 3 years now at Sri Wilayah Ballet Center and I've had the opportunity to participate in shows and concerts.

Being fourteen, I'm taking things one step at a time, embracing my childhood and glory days. I have yet to experience the real world, face big challenges and see what other things life has to offer.

The holiday season has arrived and Christmas is just around the corner. The shopping malls are decked with holiday cheer and decorations, christmas carols are being played, frozen turkies are waiting to be roasted and children are anxiously waiting to open up their presents wondering if Santa got them what they wanted this year.

Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of every December and it symbolizes the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Every year, my family celebrates Christmas by getting together for a Christmas dinner which is usually held at my aunt's place or ours. The dinner is usually done in a potluck style where every guest contributes one dish. My mum makes her roast turkey every year. Other than the gifts, and amazing food I personally think that what makes Christmas special is the joy of celebrating it together as a family. I wouldn't want to celebrate it any other way.

It was time, the day came. We were backstage dressed as " The Mystery Cat's ", we were ready to strut our steps onto the stage in our two tone black & white bodysuits. As the music played, there we went, front centre stage in front of a hall full of people. The dance started out with a spotlight on the two main Cat's in the beginning that looked like this ;

The dance continued with lots of kicks, jumps, lifts, grand jetes, splits and whatnot. Also,the music complimented every movement perfectly, and the adrenalin rush was overwhelming. As soon as the music ended and we had to clear the stage for the next act to perform, a bittersweet feeling came onto me. I was relieved that it was over, happy that I didn't mess up but at the same time sad that it ended so fast. All the months of practice and the nerves, it was finally time to take our bows and leave the stage with nothing but memories.
Backstage, we all were so happy and so was Ms Goh. We were all getting ready to change to watch the rest of the show at the projecting screen that was outside the changing rooms . We also took some pictures ;

Our ending pose .
It was indeed a night to remember and I will never forget it .

Every year, Sri Wilayah Ballet Centre puts up a show. Our theme last year was "Broadway", so our teacher decided that we do Macavity, The Mystery Cat. We spent about 3 months practicing, practice was intense but always fun and filled with laughter. We put on such a great show that they decided to put us in the Festival of Dance VII as part of the Putrajaya Arts Festival 2009-2010.
We were delighted. So we spend another 3 months practicing and adding in new steps and such based on the lyrics of the song and what it meant.
Macavity is described as being a ginger cat who is very tall and thin with sunken eyes, and sways his head from side to side "with movements like a snake". One of the poem says "his brow is deeply lined in thought, his head is highly domed; his coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed."
The poem accuses Macavity of misbehaviour that would be within the capabilities of an ordinary cat, such as stealing milk, but also holds him responsible for major crimes. He is referred to as a "fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity" and has been suspected of stifling Pekes, vandalism, theft, cheating at cards, espionage and controlling an organized crime ring with Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer and Griddlebone among the members. He also possesses the mystical power of levitation, effectively "breaking the law of gravity."
As the night draws closer, I'm only filled with more excitement. When we found out that we were a part the
Putrajaya Arts Festival, we were overwhelmed. Finally after the months of practice, we would get to step out onto that stage and perform a T.S. Elliot classic. Now all that's left to do is hope for the best and not forget to smile !

Baking.

There's always something about the sweet smell of butter and the stickiness of batter that amazed me. I always enjoyed the smell of a freshly baked cake piercing through the kitchen door. For me, baking is therapeutic. It helps calm my nerves and it gives me something to do when I'm bored. Everything about baking is so enjoyable like mixing the batter, beating the eggs, getting flour in the spaces of my fingers, rolling out the dough, filling up the individual cases, decorating the cake once it's baked, and getting to lick the bowl when everything is done.
Ultimately, I think it's safe to say that I love baking. Despite what more people say about baking, I find pleasure in putting together the simplest ingredients like butter, sugar, flour and eggs to produce a delicious cake.
